The two traits that we Filipinos should change.

1. Our being opportunistic or in tagalog mapagsamantala.

I don't think this needs much explanation but simply when one lends you a hand you'd take the whole arm and a leg. When we see opportunity we take advantage. It is not bad to grab an opportunity but not to the point of taking advantage at someone else's expense.

2. Courtesy or pagiging magalang sa karapatan ng ibang tao at sa ating paligid.

Filipinos are born NINJAS. We have a knack for getting ahead of everything. Sneaking in a long line to get ahead...even when entering malls...we have this tendency of wanting to be inside the mall first even if it is just a couple of people ahead of you as if you would die if someone else gets ahead of you. On pedestrian lanes...you would notice cars specially jeepneys going faster when they notice someone wants to cross the street to the point of almost hitting the pedestrian. I have done this a couple of times (trying to get ahead) just to see others reactions. Some people just don't care and some people get mighty furious. Even in a drinking fountain...you would find people sneaking just to get water. I don't know if it is just because we don't want wasting our time or we just look at others as competition but bottom line is RESPECT. This is not about falling in line...it is just one example of how we disregard others feelings and needs.  We should learn to respect others and our surroundings regardless of race, sex and religion.

We can make a difference and we can make our world a whole lot better if we just change our ways for the better. We portray our nation as being respectful and caring to our foreign guests but in actuality we don't practice this with our fellow Filipinos.
